The squares were sheared ¾ inch by ¾ inch from 18 gauge sterling silver and joined to pure sterling silver torpedo style links using sterling silver solder and an acetylene torch. Soldered joints are far superior to consumer grade resins for joining metals and unlike thinner 20-22 gauge sterling silver, the thicker 18 gauge provides resistance to bending and a high quality appearance. For maximum legibility and contrast against the shine of polished sterling silver, the coordinates are darkened with a black patina. The cuff links are both tumbled and hand polished to insure a quality mirror finish.
